May 30, Moncton, New Brunswick: The New Brunswick Youth Orchestra receives an exclusive opportunity to perform the works of the great Viennese composers on the world’s premier stage at Carnegie Hall.
“This is an incredibly exciting invitation for the New Brunswick Youth Orchestra to play at the prestigious Carnegie Hall, and yes we plan to accept,” said Ken MacLeod, President and CEO of the New Brunswick Youth Orchestra. “This all stems from the world-wide exposure of our video response, ‘An INFINITY Of Young Talent’, to the Nissan Infiniti commercial which aired in late-April and presented a tired, old stereotype of youth and poor music.”
Our video went viral with more than 100,000 views on YouTube; 25,000+ Facebook views; provincial, national and international coverage. It’s reach extended to the UK CLASSIC fM channel with 3 million subscribers and struck a chord with TwoSet Violin in Australia and their 3.7 million subscribers plus 418,000 YouTube views. The New Brunswick Youth Orchestra (NBYO) engages the province’s most talented musicians and takes learning and performing orchestral music seriously. Each season the NBYO admits by audition, 80 young musicians, many of whom will further their musical studies at universities and conservatories. Some will go on to teach and perform as professional musicians.
“We felt compelled to step up and trumpet our youth, their talent, performance excellence and promise. After all, that’s the reality we see every day. We are a social innovator, we offer free daily after school learning via our Sistema NB program, where music and the orchestra is the means to create social change for children who otherwise would not have the opportunity.” said Ken MacLeod. “We are proud of our young musicians and ecstatic they will have an opportunity to experience the distinction of performing in the internationally-renowned Carnegie Hall. This is like the young athlete playing at the Rogers Centre, Fenway Park or Wimbledon; it’s big!”
The New Brunswick Youth Orchestra was invited, by Music Celebrations International, to perform at Carnegie Hall in the 2023 Viennese Masters Orchestra Invitational taking place June 15-16, 2023. The invitation is a result of NBYO’s follow up Infinity video which the organizers thought was “brilliant”. The president, John P Wiscombe went on to say in his message to Ken MacLeod that “We share your love for music creation and doing so at a very high level. We also believe students should be rewarded for pursuing these musical endeavours with life changing performance opportunities.”
Each participating ensemble will have a private clinic with Maestro Michael Adelson, Conductor-Clinician with the New York Philharmonic. This will be a learning and performance experience of a lifetime.
