The New Brunswick Youth Orchestra is proud to announce its 62nd concert season, Excellence Ignited, featuring works including Stravinsky’s Firebird Suite, Tchaikovsky’s Romeo and Juliet, and Rimsky-Korsakov’s Russian Easter Overture.
Nearly 100 young musicians from communities across New Brunswick come together in the NBYO, many after years of learning and performing through Sistema NB and regional youth orchestras. Each concert brings those individual journeys together on one stage, combining discipline, collaboration and ambition in some of the most powerful music in the orchestral repertoire.
We believe in continually challenging our musicians and inspiring them to reach new heights. These works demand artistry, technical excellence and trust across every section of the orchestra. For audiences, the result is the energy and excitement of young musicians taking on repertoire of extraordinary colour, scale and intensity.
More than 95% of NBYO musicians began playing their instruments through Sistema NB, a free, daily after-school program that uses music and the orchestra as a vehicle for social development. Over the years, NBYO musicians have distinguished themselves at local, provincial and national music festivals, performed with leading youth ensembles, and continued their studies at major universities and conservatories. Their achievements are evidence of what young people can accomplish when they are given sustained opportunity, high expectations and the support to keep progressing.
At the heart of this season is Stravinsky’s Firebird Suite. For the NBYO, The Firebird is more than a masterwork of the orchestral repertoire. It is a symbol of growth, possibility and the courage to take on something greater. As our musicians continue to develop, Excellence Ignited reflects both how far they have come.
